Welcome to the CPC Discussions blog.
This blog is a place to foster further discussion between individuals at CPC. As we encounter new information and ideas, we all take time to process through what our response is. Often, when we have the opportunity to engage with each other during this processing, we find our ideas enriched and expanded.
Leviticus 11 - We don't generally think of Leviticus as a book that speaks of grace, there seems more to be a lot of, what appears to us, as odd laws and restrictions, and yet there it is in ch. 11. Verses 44-45: "For I am the Lord your God. Consecrate yourselves therefore, and be holy, for I am holy. You shall not defile yourselves with any swarming thing that crawls on the ground. For I am the Lord who brought you up out of the land of Egypt to be your God. You shall therefore be holy, for I am holy." There it is! Why are we to be holy? Why are we to consecrate ourselves? Because God, the one who calls us to be holy as he is holy, is the one who has redeemed us. He had delivered the people from Egypt and now he declares: "By Holy". The gracious act preceded the command. God extends his grace to his people and as a response to him we keep his law, we obey him, we seek holiness. Grace - there it is in Leviticus.
